La Cumbre

Built in 1946 for the Los Padres National Forest, La Cumbre Peak Lookout was an innovative experimental design with sloped glass and relatively high walls. Because of the relatively high cost at the time ($6,500), it was the only model constructed.  The Los Padres National Forest has leased adjacent land to commercial communications facilities and now a radiation hazard sign hangs on the fence surrounding the deteriorating lookout tower.
